Carlton Meres is one of the Suffolk parks in the Park Holidays UK collection, at Carlton, near Saxmundham.
Carlton Meres sits inland near Saxmundham, in the quiet countryside behind the Suffolk Heritage Coast.
Aldeburgh, Snape and Minsmere are all within a short drive, which makes this a good base for the most rewarding part of the Suffolk coast.
A local day out: Snape Maltings
A Victorian malthouse complex on the River Alde, converted into a concert hall, galleries and shops, and the home of the Aldeburgh Festival that Benjamin Britten founded. The reed beds around it are the draw even without a concert: boardwalks, sculpture in the marsh, and river walks towards Iken. Parking and the walks are free.
Also within reach
- Aldeburgh — Shingle beach, fishing huts, Maggi Hambling's Scallop and famous fish and chips.
- RSPB Minsmere — Avocets, bitterns and the reserve made famous by Springwatch.
- Framlingham Castle — A curtain-wall castle you can walk right around the top of.
