Felixstowe Beach Holiday Park, Suffolk – and what to do nearby

Felixstowe Beach is one of the Suffolk parks in the Park Holidays UK collection, at Felixstowe.

Felixstowe Beach sits on the seafront at Felixstowe, an Edwardian resort next door to the largest container port in Britain.

That combination is more interesting than it sounds: you get the seafront gardens and the pier on one side, and enormous ships on the other.

A local day out: Landguard Fort and the port viewing area

An 18th-century fort at the tip of the peninsula, where the last opposed invasion of England was repelled in 1667. It is English Heritage and you can explore the tunnels and gun emplacements. Next to it is a viewing area where the container ships come in close enough to feel oversized, which fascinates children and, quietly, most adults.

Also within reach

  • Felixstowe seafront gardens — Restored Edwardian cliff gardens running along the front. Free.
  • Felixstowe Ferry — A hamlet at the mouth of the Deben, with a foot ferry to Bawdsey.
  • Sutton Hoo — The Anglo-Saxon ship burial mounds, half an hour away.
