Dawlish Sands is one of the Devon parks in the Park Holidays UK collection, at Dawlish, south Devon.
Dawlish Sands sits on the coast at Dawlish, on the stretch of south Devon where the main railway line runs along the sea wall.
It is a classic English seaside town with a stream running through the middle of it and black swans on the water.
A local day out: The Dawlish sea wall walk
The railway from Dawlish to Dawlish Warren runs on a wall between the cliffs and the sea, and there is a footpath alongside it the whole way. Trains pass a few feet away with the waves breaking below, which is one of the great free spectacles in Britain and completely captivating for children. About a mile and a half, flat, with a beach at either end.
Also within reach
- Dawlish Warren — A sand spit and nature reserve at the mouth of the Exe.
- Teignmouth — A pier, a working port and a passenger ferry across to Shaldon.
- Powderham Castle — Deer park, gardens and a family home still lived in.
