Wood Farm Holiday Park, Dorset – and what to do nearby

Wood Farm is one of the Dorset parks in the Park Holidays UK collection, at Charmouth, west Dorset.

Wood Farm sits above Charmouth, on the Jurassic Coast in west Dorset, a mile or so from Lyme Regis.

This is the most productive fossil coastline in Britain, and the reason most people come.

A local day out: Fossil hunting on Charmouth beach

The cliffs here are Lower Jurassic and they shed ammonites and belemnites onto the beach with every storm. You do not need equipment, and you should not hammer the cliffs, which are unstable. Walk the shingle after a high tide and look. The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre on the beach runs guided fossil walks and will identify what you have found, which turns a hopeful hour into an actual education.

Also within reach

  • Lyme Regis and the Cobb — The harbour wall from The French Lieutenant's Woman, and a good museum.
  • Golden Cap — The highest point on the south coast of England, walkable from Charmouth.
  • Abbotsbury — A swannery, subtropical gardens and the start of Chesil Beach.
