A local day out: Whitstable and the Street
At low tide a shingle spit called the Street emerges and lets you walk half a mile out into the sea, with water on both sides. It is free, it feels faintly unreal, and the only rule is to watch the tide and turn back in good time. Behind it, the harbour has the fish market, the oyster stalls and the working boats.
