Birchington Vale Holiday Park, Kent – and what to do nearby

Birchington Vale is one of the Kent parks in the Park Holidays UK collection, at Birchington-on-Sea, Thanet.

Birchington Vale sits at Birchington-on-Sea, on the Thanet coast between Herne Bay and Margate.

The bays along this stretch are chalk-backed and sandy, and there are a lot more of them than most people realise.

A local day out: Dreamland, Margate

A restored 1920s amusement park with the Grade II listed Scenic Railway, the oldest rollercoaster in Britain, still running and still made of wood. Around it there is a roller disco, vintage rides and a big events programme. It is a short drive or a train hop from Birchington, and it pairs neatly with the Turner Contemporary and the sands at Margate Main Sands.

Also within reach

  • Botany Bay — Chalk stacks on a sandy beach at Broadstairs, the best-looking bay in Kent.
  • Quex Park — Powell-Cotton Museum, gardens and a maze, in Birchington itself.
  • Turner Contemporary — Free gallery on the Margate seafront, looking at the light Turner painted.
