A local day out: Bowness-on-Solway, the western end of Hadrian's Wall
The Wall does not stop at the coast so much as fade into it, and Bowness-on-Solway is where it ends. There is a little shelter marking the start or finish of the Hadrian's Wall Path, an enormous view over the firth to Scotland, and almost nobody there. Combine it with the RSPB reserve at Campfield Marsh next door for the birds coming off the estuary.
