A local day out: Clitheroe Castle
One of the smallest Norman keeps in England, standing on a limestone knoll above the town with a view over the whole valley to Pendle Hill. The grounds and the museum sit beneath it, the climb up takes five minutes, and children get a castle they can actually get inside without a long walk. The museum covers the geology and the Pendle witch trials.
